On april 2nd 2008, Radiohead went into the TV studio of The Hospital in London to record a session for
From The Basement, which would be aired on may 3rd 2008 at 12am on VH-1. The session was directed by David Barnard, the sound was engineered by Nigel Godrich.
The VH-1 broadcast consisted of: Bodysnatchers, Nude, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, 15 Step, House of Cards, Reckoner, Myxomatosis, Optimistic, Where I End and You Begin.
Prior to the VH-1 broadcast, two songs were dedicated to other purposes:
'House Of Cards' was recorded specifically for NBC's 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien'. The New York based show used the pre-taped performance from London in its april 23rd edition, which had an environmental focus. This is a different performance than the one used for the VH-1 broadcast. In an introduction about the performance, Thom mentions the amount of CO2 emissions saved by not flying over for a TV show.
'Bangers And Mash' was given to Pitchfork for the launch of pitchfork.tv on april 7th 2008. This is a screenshot of the announcement on Pitchfork's website along with some pictures they posted there:
Three more songs appeared in june 2008 on iTunes: 'All I Need', 'Go Slowly' and 'Videotape'. All in all there were 10 songs from the session available:
Bodysnatchers, House of Cards, Nude, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, 15 Step, Reckoner, Go Slowly, Videotape, Bangers And Mash, All I Need.
